Cast damask is a technology that dates back to antiquity and the Middle Ages. He gets another names like wootz, bulat , or real damask. As the name suggests, the center production used to be the Syrian city of Damascus. From there, technology spread to Mesopotamia, Persia and East Indies. The share of carbon in the structure is very high (around 1.5%), but alloying elements are practically absent, except for a small proportion of vanadium and molybdenum. The production consisted of melting pieces of iron in a special heat-resistant crucible so-called crucible.
